Meets at 18:45 on the fourth Monday except December when it is the third Wednesday Months – Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, Oct (Installation), Nov and Dec.
Gordano Lodge had an interesting beginning, being formed in a building which had been a Brunel broad gauge railway station, and which is now the Portishead Lifeboat station. It drew its members from the Gordano Valley, mainly Portishead, Clevedon and Pill. It is a local lodge whose members are still mostly local people, many of whom will be recognised and whose faces will be well known in the communities, clubs, societies and churches in the towns.
Since the RNLI took over the old meeting hall, the lodge now meets in Clevedon, seven times a year with a break in the summer, on Mondays (Wednesday in December). The meetings are lively and friendly, always with a good meal. In particular Burns night is always celebrated in style with a piper and haggis. There are also other gatherings which families can join in, including regular Sunday Lunches, Macmillan Coffee Morning, and Christmas Carol Evening.
Gordano Lodge is not a ‘specialist’ lodge with a narrow membership. The backgrounds of its members have been wide and various, including engineers, teachers, builders, shopkeepers, business owners, clergy, doctors, solicitors, the diplomatic service, the armed forces and more.
Whilst the lodge has lately given many thousands of pounds to national charities, it has also recently been a great supporter of local charities, including Penny Brohn, Macmillan Cancer Support, Portishead in Bloom, local Play Groups, local Scout Groups, Portishead Christmas Lights, the Air Ambulance, Blood Bikers, and more. We are always reviewing and adding to the local charities we support.
Gordano Lodge is small in numbers and very friendly, so no member is left isolated. Emphasis is placed on contact and welfare concerns, both for members and widows. Support and guidance is particularly strong for all new comers whilst they navigate the rituals and mysteries of freemasonry.
Our Ideal Candidate should have a sense of humour and enjoy life. A stuffed shirt would not be happy with us. Whatever stage he may have reached in his working life, he should not have forgotten his roots. Given the Lodge’s age range we are able to welcome new members at any point in their adult life. Certainly, the younger a man joins, the better for him.
