Coleridge Lodge No 1750
Meets at 18:45 except May on the second Wednesday
Months – Feb, Mar, Apr, May (Installation 17:30), Oct, Nov and Dec (Xmas).
Sir John Taylor Coleridge (9 July 1790 – 11 February 1876) was an English Judge the second son of Captain James Coleridge and nephew of the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. He was born at Tiverton, Devon and was educated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford where he had a reputedly brilliant career. In 1819 he was called to the bar at the Middle Temple and practised for some years on the western circuit. In 1858 he resigned his judgeship, and was made a member of the Privy Council. He died at Ottery St. Mary, Devon, leaving two sons and two daughters. His eldest son, John Duke Coleridge, 1st Baron Coleridge, became Lord Chief Justice of England. He was ennobled and it is his arms that we use in Coleridge Lodge.
The Coleridge Banner is formed from the Coat of Arms of Lord Coleridge. The motto ‘Time Deum Cole Regem’ translates to ‘Fear God, Honour the King (Queen)’

Eldon Lodge No. 1755
Meets at 15:00 on the second Saturday.
Months – Jan, Mar, May, Oct (Installation), and Dec
Eldon Lodge No 1755 known as “the lodge by the sea” because the meeting place was only yards from the Bristol Channel in Portishead.
Consecrated in September 1878, the lodge initially met at the Royal Inn before acquiring Portishead Masonic Hall where it met for over 80 years. The old temple eventually being no longer viable as a meeting place and was sold to the RNLI to be re-established as an RNLI Lifeboat Centre, the lodge currently meets in Clevedon.
Eldon Lodge is very proud of it’s 140 year history and all of its’ traditions. It is a very friendly lodge and always looks to ensure that its members enjoy their Freemasonry. Visitors are always most welcome! The members of Eldon Lodge enjoy the friendship and camaraderie that exists within, and every year support two local charities chosen by the Master in office. In recent years, they have supported the RNLI, Portishead Scouts, 1-in-4 People (Mental Health Charity) and Children’s Hospice South West.
If you have any questions or would like to enquire about joining or visiting, please contact the Lodge Secretary: Contact the Lodge Secretary: D M Gleeson. Visit the Lodge website www.eldonlodge.co.uk
Tennyson Lodge No 4947
Meets at 18:30 except November; on the Friday after the third Wednesday.
Months – Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Sep, Oct and Nov (Installation 17:00)
Tennyson Lodge was consecrated in 1927, and was formed by members of Coleridge Lodge, who decided a second Lodge in Clevedon was needed.
Tennyson Lodge is indebted to Alfred Lord Tennyson’s descendants, who have given permission to the Lodge to use their family crest as part of the Lodge Banner, upon which the words “Respiciens Prospiciens” are seen, meaning “Looking backwards, looking forwards”
We are pleased to welcome candidates and Brethren from any part of the country, and do not restrict membership to any particular trade or profession, nor any age. After each formal meeting, we meet downstairs to dine in a very convivial atmosphere where the members share stories and life experiences with one another.
Tennyson was, and still is renowned for the extended versions and high standard of ritual performed.

Gordano Lodge No 6244
Meets at 18:45 on the fourth Monday except December when it is the third Wednesday
Months – Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, Oct (Installation), Nov and Dec.
Originally meeting at Portishead, the Lodge has now settled at Clevedon. we meet seven times a year with a break in the summer, on Mondays (Wednesday in December).
Gordano Lodge is a local lodge whose members are still mostly local people, many of whom will be recognised and whose faces will be well known in the communities, clubs, societies and churches in the towns. The meetings are lively and friendly, always with a good meal. In particular Burns night is always celebrated in style with a piper and haggis. There are also other gatherings which families can join in, including regular Sunday Lunches, Macmillan Coffee Morning, and Christmas Carol Evening.
Gordano Lodge is not a ‘specialist’ lodge with a narrow membership. The backgrounds of its members have been wide and various, including engineers, teachers, builders, shopkeepers, business owners, clergy, doctors, solicitors, the diplomatic service, the armed forces and more.
Our Ideal Candidate should have a sense of humour and enjoy life. A stuffed shirt would not be happy with us. Whatever stage he may have reached in his working life, he should not have forgotten his roots. Given the Lodge’s age range we are able to welcome new members at any point in their adult life. Certainly, the younger a man joins, the better for him.
If you would like to find out more about Joining Gordano Lodge please contact our secretary.
