Yes If at the Double

With a can-do attitude, the Brethren of St Alphege Lodge took the Pro Grand Master’s “Yes-If” message to heart and performed a magical Double Second Degree Ceremony recently, involving additional people to make it more inclusive, interesting and entertaining.

The planning, preparation and rehearsal masterminded by their Director of Ceremonies, John Townsend, renowned for his theatrics, encouraged and enthused the team to take on a more daring approach to the usual well-honed but traditional method of performing Ritual; a brave move but it resulted in a most spectacular and enjoyable interpretation, without losing any of the original sincerity or meaning.

By timely coincidence, the Provincial Grand Master for Somerset, Ray Guthrie, accompanied by members of the Provincial Team, attended the meeting that evening to present the Membership Challenge.

The buzz in the dining room afterwards was palpable as both the presentation and ceremony had evoked much thought and cause for enthusiastic discussion.
