PGM’s Golf Day – without rain!

Twenty two golfers met at Yeovil Golf Club on Wednesday 30th August to contest the Provincial Grand Master’s Trophy. This was the first time that the event had been held post covid. The Trophy was originally donated by the then Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro David Jenkins. The first competition held in 2004 was organised under the auspice of Somerset Fairway Lodge as a charity raising event for the 2007 Festival. After the festival the event continued annually and was organised by the late W.Bro Allan Day, the treasurer of Fairway Lodge. In 2019 the event was one by W.Bro Richard Stone who other with the current Fairway Lodge treasurer Bro Peter Richards organised this years event.

After what has been a pretty wet sunmmer the weather was luckily fine and the course and greens at Yeovil were in excellent condition, no excuses for those who didn’t play well! There were some very good scores with Mike Donohue returning an excellent 42 points to win the trophy together with a bottle of Malt Whisky and a very nice crystal decanter donated by W.Bro David Flack. Second was W.Bro Tony Guthrie with a very creditable 40 points.

The brethren enjoyed a meal in the club house after golf following which the Provincial Grand Master, Ray Guthrie was able to present the prizes to the worthy winners. A great day was had by members from all over the Province, including members of the Adair club.
