Rehearsals are at 1400 on the day of the meeting, with a 1600 meeting, followed by dining at 1800.
The lodge is peripatetic in nature and meets throughout the province of Somerset and beyond. The installation meeting is held at the Bridgwater Masonic Hall.
The Somerset Military Lodge No 10021, was consecrated on 21 May 2022 at the WO & SNR Rates Mess at RNAS Yeovilton (HMS Heron), with just under 300 attending.
There was a long-held desire for a military lodge within Somerset to be formed. The reasons were many and varied, but the driving ones have been to exemplify the tradition of military service and to provide support and encouragement to its members that freemasonry can offer.
The SML offers an environment that is recognisable to those that have served or are serving their country. It can aide them with the transition from service life to civiy street or simply be a place of comfort for those that have already left the services but are looking for place that understands them.
The lodge has a belief that those who have served in HM Forces have an extra level of appreciation for the camaraderie, education, discipline, and support that Freemasonry can offer.
Members of the lodge were the driving force in arranging the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant, the signing of which publicly sets out the commitment by Somerset Freemasons to the Armed Forces Community in Somerset.
The lodge actively supports local and national charities whether they be military or not.
Membership is only open to those serving or retired HM Forces personnel, Reservists, Adult Cadet Staff, and Fleet Auxiliary.
Non-military guests are more than welcome, please contact the secretary for your “invite”.
If you would like to find more about us, either to take your first step in freemasonry, becoming a joining member or coming along as a guest, please do not hesitate to contact our secretary.
