Three Hundred Years of Bath Freemasonry

2024 is the 300th Anniversary of the Consecration of the first Lodge to meet in Bath, and thereby of the first Lodge to meet in the County of Somerset.

Not only that, but The City of Bath Lodge No 28 meeting at the Queen’s Head Hotel was also the very first Lodge to be formed outside of London under the Premier Grand Lodge of England.

So Bath is the first city in England and Wales to be able to celebrate such an anniversary, which is why a series of events is being organised throughout the year to mark it.

The first of these events took place on Thursday 22nd of February, with a public lecture given by our Historian Malcolm Toogood on 300 Years of Bath Freemasonry at the Royal Scientific and Literary Institute in Queen’s Square in Bath.

The next event will take place at Bath Masonic Hall on Saturday 11th May 2024, which is the actual anniversary date of the founding of The Queen’s Head Lodge in 1724.  This will be a twofold evening and is open to members from all Lodges and Orders meeting in Bath, and their families.

In response to numerous requests by members unable to make the BRSLI event due to other commitments, the lecture will be repeated.  The rest of the night will be an informal Social Evening to celebrate the anniversary.

There will be no entrance charge or need to book. A simple buffet will be available for those wishing to eat, which can be paid for on the night, and the bar will also be open for the duration.

The Bath Masonic Hall Trustees hope you can come along and be part of this unique year for Bath Freemasons.
