Benevolent Lodge donate £3,000 to Prostate Cancer Charity

At the Christmas meeting of Benevolent Lodge, IPM Mike Curtis presented a cheque in the magnificent sum of £3000 to Trevor Rodgers of Prostate Cancer UK.

Mike said “I chose this charity during my year as Master because I, like many of my age group, including other members of the Lodge, have received treatment for the disease & felt that it would be appropriate to contribute towards research, diagnosis & treatment for future generations.”

A number of social events took place during his year including a highly successful Ladies Night and by the end of his year in March 2023 the sum of £2,500 had been raised. A further £500 in the form of a Lodge Support Funding Grant has been donated by the Somerset Masonic Charities Committee which is keen to promote the work of Lodges across Somerset.

Mike requested that the funds be donated in memory of the late Chris Shrapnel PAGDC, PPrAssGReg, a well-loved stalwart of the Lodge who died in April last year from prostate cancer, the very week he was due to receive his 50 year Certificate from the PGM. Trevor thanked Mike and said “This wonderful donation is much appreciated and will do much to help us further understand and treat this disease which effects around one man in eight during their lifetime.”
