Trafalgar Night Celebrated at Estune
On Saturday the 21st October Estune hosted a Trafalgar night to celebrate the 218th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, this was the first social gathering for our newly made WM Mark Eastaugh.
The night started with a social gathering in the bar then the diners made an entrance to the dining hall to the sound of life on the ocean waves, a very tasty 4 course menu as in Trafalgar tradition had to be beef, was served and in between each course the tradition of reading some of the historical events leading up to the Great Battle, such as: The Chase, read by Stewart Galway, The Battle, read by Martin Hockley Close Action, read by Jason Hill and the Aftermath read by Eric Sortwell. During the cheese and biscuits, the traditional passing of the Port was conducted in true navel fashion.
The evening would not have been complete without a comedy sketch, “Dancing ladies & Life jackets” looking at how the modern day version of events may have looked like with Health and Safety, this was performed by Martin Slocombe and Richard Reeves, it needs to be seen. During the evening everyone in the true spirit of the events sang a few verses of Land of Hope and Glory. Afterwards the evening came to close with the lowering of the Standard to the sounds of Sunset.
The raffle raised £205 which will be going to the WM Marks chosen charity for the year, which is St peters Hospice this is quite fitting as they provided support for his family during his father’s battle with cancer, I am sure this will be well supported over the year by all.
This was great evening in great company and we would like to thank Eric Sortwell and the Estune social team for the hard work in preparing and hosting this event.
