From the Saddle of Mike Norton on TDT Day 1
Somerset Masonic Cycle Association (Facebook) Tour de Temples stage one Minehead to Illminster complete The first day is over and what a day it was.
The weather was kind to us it was fairly mild, and overcast conditions with a little breeze at times. The day started badly for one of our riders as his new cleats didn’t fit his pedal D-oh!, but fortunately we had a spare bike with us. He won’t make that mistake again .
We set off towards Watchet. Steve myself and David were interviewed for BBC Radio Somerset at 8.50which was fun. We then made our way to Wiveliscombe where we received a fantastic welcome with tea, sausage rolls and cake.
We set of to Wellington and then Taunton for another lovely welcome and tea and bickies. We then had a steady ride over to the centre of the known World, LANGPORT, or course. For a special Portcullis welcome and a massive thanks to Kate Norton and Ellen Norton for preparing a wonderful spread of sandwiches Barry Horsgood Neill, Ian for helping and presenting a wonderful framed photo of the Hanging Chapel to all of us. We also received support from the Somerset Farmers David Preece and Colin However on leaving the Hanging Chapel. We were then pelted with water bombs. I am pleased to say there aim was very poor.
The last leg was to Illminster where the Nyanza WM came out to support us and we received a fantastic welcome and super tea and cake.
Thank you to all those that presented us cheques today and looked after and supported us, it made it all worth while. We are all very tired and need a good night’s sleep fortunately I am in my own bed tonight. Hoo Ray. Let’s see what tomorrow brings
