Gordano Lodge – Mrs Pam Wright Celebrates 100 Years

On Wednesday 23rd of February 2022, Mrs Pam Wright widow of the late W.Bro Ken Wright MBE, past Master of Gordano Lodge 6244, achieved something that the English Cricket Team would be proud of. She reached her century!

At a gathering of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and neighbours Brian Clayton the Almoner of Gordano Lodge, presented her with a basket of flowers, a couple of bottles of Bucks Fizz, and a card to commemorate the occasion, on behalf of the Officers, Bretheren and Families of the Lodge.

A “This is your Life” was presented by her son Martin, and what a life it has been so far. Joining the Fire service at age 18, she served throughout the Bristol Blitz in 1940 / 1941. She has been a RNLI volunteer for well over 70 years, receiving a bar to her Gold Badge from the Duke of Kent. The stories of a life of service go on and on. When presented with a card from “ELIZABETH” she jokingly said “Elizabeth who?, She hasn’t put her surname on it”.

Pam is affectionately known to the family as O.D. (Old Dear) to which she doesn’t object at all. She refuses to use a walking frame, using her stick when nagged into it.

This was the first time that Mrs Wright had met the Brian, the Gordano Almoner as they had only had contact on the telephone since Covid. She insisted on introducing him to everybody as “Mr Wednesday” for obvious reasons.

Her family thanked the Almoner and the Lodge for their support and care shown to Pam throughout the pandemic.

Also attending the party was Mrs Joyce Rowe, widow of W.Bro Fred Rowe Past Master of Gordano. I was also Joyce’s **th birthday, so she too was presented with a small gift.

A rousing chorus of Happy Birthday brought proceedings to a close.
