A Very Close Shave! To Support Local Cancer Patients

On the 31st May, a member of the Lodge of Perpetual Friendship, Bridgwater took an extraordinary step to support a vital local charity. John Ireland bravely shaved off all his hair and beard in a striking fundraising effort for the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE).

SURE is an independent charity dedicated to improving care for cancer patients and supporting the NHS at the Beacon Centre, located within Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Somerset. The charity plays a crucial role in funding advanced equipment, enhancing facilities, and improving the overall treatment experience for patients undergoing radiotherapy.

John’s bold-bald act has drawn attention and admiration from both fellow lodge members and the wider community. By completely shaving his head and face, he aimed to raise awareness as well as vital funds for the charity and readers may agree, has drastically improved his looks!
