A Night Of Excellence: Quantock Lodge Welcomes A New Brother

Quantock Lodge 4446 opened its first ceremony of 2026 at Watchet with a night of exceptional ritual, heartfelt fraternity and a memorable milestone for its newest member. The Lodge was delighted to welcome Mr Harry Chamberlain (pictured above centre), who was initiated into Freemasonry in a ceremony marked by precision, warmth and genuine brotherly support.

Throughout the ceremony, Junior Deacon Denis Griggs provided exemplary guidance to the candidate, ensuring Harry felt supported and at ease during every stage of his initiation. His steady presence and attentive floor work set the tone for a dignified and meaningful experience. The evening also saw two newer brethren introduced to ritual work, contributing confidently to the floor movements and demonstrating the lodge’s commitment to developing its members.

A particularly commendable moment came from Brother Bruce Freeman, who, newly raised, delivered the Working Tools with clarity and assurance: an impressive early step in his Masonic journey. The North East Corner Address was superbly delivered by Fellow Craft Rory Crabb, whose calm presence, clear delivery, and thoughtful interpretation added real depth to the moment and reflected the care he has invested in his ritual work.

The Charge to the Initiate was then delivered by Roger Bliss, who, from the South, gave the piece his characteristic dignity, reverence, and measured authority, providing a fitting and reflective close to the ceremonial portion of the evening. For the first ceremony of 2026, Quantock Lodge demonstrated its strength, unity, and commitment to excellence. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended, but most importantly, it provided Harry Chamberlain with a truly memorable and inspiring beginning to his Masonic life.

The Festive Board continued the spirit of the evening, with both frequent visitors and first‑time guests made to feel warmly welcomed into the embrace of fraternal brotherhood. During the toasts Chris Crump, who had proudly proposed Harry for membership, rose to deliver a heartfelt and moving speech. He affirmed to Harry that he has now joined another family-one built on support, friendship, and shared values and assured him that the brethren of Quantock Lodge stand ready to guide him as he begins his Masonic journey. His words were warmly received and perfectly captured the spirit of the evening.

The night closed with a sense of pride, unity, and optimism as the Lodge looked forward to seeing what the future holds for its newest brother.
