Provincial Carol Service – Wells Cathedral
The Cathedral was packed to the rafters with Somerset Freemasons, their friends and Partners, even the Mayor of Wells, as well as Brethren from other Provinces. All of whom enjoyed a fantastic evening of Christmas Carols and readings. Unfortunately the PGM Ray Guthrie could not attend this year due to a family illness, but his place was taken up by a worthy Substitute! Our previous Provincial Grand Master and the Current Assistant Grand Master, none other than David Medlock himself!
Before the evening started Mulled Wine and Mince Pies were served to the guests, all of whom commented on how nice it was.
The Reverend Canon Tim Stevens opened the event with David Medlock then welcoming everyone and wishing them a Happy Christmas. The St Ceclia Lodge Choir being in fine voice (accompanied by Wells Cathedral Organist and Director of Music Mr Timothy Parsons) the Carols began, starting with the First Nowell.
The readings were read in-between each Carol, the readers being Ian Evans, (Isiah Ch9 v2 &6-7), Barrie Palmer (Luke Ch1 V26-38) Mrs Alison Soars (Luke Ch2 v1-7), David Maddern (Luke Ch2) v8-16 and Scott Gibbons (Matthew Ch2 v1-11).
Following the readings and Carols, St Cecila Choir gave a beautiful rendition of “A Christmas Anthem”, filling the Cathedral with their superb voices, and making everyone feel extremely Christmassy!
Bob Moore then took to the Podium to deliver one of his memorable Addresses – Logic and Magic, how anyone can include Quantum Physics, Religion and Magic and make it sound plausible, is mind blowing!
The event was rounded off with Intercession prayers delivered by the Reverend Stuart Boyd and the final blessing from Rev Canon Tim Stevens.
The evening was organised by Roger Allan (PProvGSecretary) extremely well, it really was a lovely evening enjoyed by all.
