The John Palmer Conundrum – article in The Bath Magazine

Vincent Baughan, a guide at The Old Theatre Royal Bath, aka Bath Masonic Hall, has written an article for The Bath Magazine.  It explores the lives of four key figures in the history of the building, all of whom were called John Palmer!  There is John Palmer the businessman who created the theatre; his son John Palmer who took over the management of the theatre until he was awarded the position of head of The Post Office for his invention of The Mail Coach, and who also became mayor and MP for Bath;  the architect employed by John Palmer Jr, called John Palmer who was responsible for extensive re-modelling of the theatre, as well as designing Bath’s current Theatre Royal;  and an actor called John Palmer, known as “Plausible Jack” Palmer, who appeared on stage at the theatre.

The Bath Magazine is a glossy “coffee table” magazine distributed to households and businesses in and around Bath.  The article is available on-line via this link: https://issuu.com/mcpublishing/docs/bathmag0123/42
