The Weston Breakout

With the long periods of lockdown during last year we were all longing for the opportunity to be able to socialise and meet people again.  It seems a long time ago, but when the announcement that the restrictions were to be lifted on 19^th July, a number of Weston masons decided we would get together and organise a social event “The Weston Breakout” where brethren and their families could finally meet and get together again.

We held a BBQ at Hutton, Nr Weston super Mare on Saturday 24^th July with live entertainment provided by Dennis DeMille. He was very popular and it proved a very successful event, and although the main aim was for brethren to get together we did take the opportunity to raise funds towards two nominated Charities, The Children’s Hospice South West and McMillan Nurses. There was good attendance at the BBQ, but there were brethren that still found it too early to venture out, even though it was outside and in well ventilated Marquees. There is the possibility that we may consider organising another event next year for the Weston lodges.

We raised a total of £640 and recently we made these donations to the charities. W Bro Terry Porter and Bro’s Martin Hughes and Dave Rogers presented the donation to the McMillan nurses at Weston Hospital, where we met two of the staff, Lesley Bowskill and Jude Opogah. We were not allowed to remove the masks as we were in the hospital.

Later we went to the Children’s hospice at Charlton Farm, Wraxall to present the other cheque, but again even though we were outside the policy, requested by social media, was for masks to still be worn. Both of the charities were pleased to receive the donations.
