Julian May
Just a mile from the centre of City of Bath is this rare extended garden cultivated by Elizabeth and Julian May.
It is normally a haven of colour but as a victim of covid lacks bedding plants and yet every corner is occupied with new growth, much of it intentional.
It provides a playground and nourishment for any wild creature that prowls at night, badgers enjoy grubs that lie beneath freshly planted vegetables and its such a joy to inspect the carnage on a bright spring morning knowing the animals have had such pleasure in digging them up.
The raised root knuckles from a cherry tree sit and wait ready to attack an approaching rotor blade, yet the current tranquillity injects a calm that is unique in a city garden.
