Parrett and Axe Chapter 814

Meets at – The Masonic Hall, Crewkerne TA18 7JU at 18:30 on the fourth
Tuesday. Months – January, March, May, September and November.

The formation of a Parrett & Axe Chapter No 814 was first proposed to be formed in connection with Parrett & Axe Lodge no. 814 at a lodge committee meeting on July 27th 1920 held at the Crewkerne Masonic Hall. All present were in agreement with founders fees being suggested at 3 Guineas and annual membership fees of 10/6p.

The Chapter was consecrated by the Grand Superintendent, Excellent Companion Colonel William C Long CMG, on Friday October 28th in an emergency meeting of the Provincial Grand Chapter at the Crewkerne Masonic Hall. It was the fifth of six Chapters that were consecrated by Excellent Companion Long between 1910 and 1922.

The Parrett & Axe Chapter was sponsored by Parrett & Axe lodge and most of the founders came from the lodge, of the original 20 founders 7 went on to become First Principal starting with Excellent Companion C V Everitt, Past Provincial Assistant Grand Sojourner (Cornwall), who was a Past Principal of Rose of Sharon Chapter No 1006 Redruth, Cornwall, and St Meriadoc Chapter, Camborne and who was installed as First Principal following the consecration of the Chapter in 1921.

The 1932 the Somerset Provincial Grand Chapter meeting was held under the banner of the Parrett & Axe Chapter in the Crewkerne Masonic Hall on Thursday June 30th, just eleven years after its consecration.

In 1933 Parrett & Axe lodge purchased this building in Market Street and the Parrett & Axe Chapter moved into the new Masonic Hall at the same time.

Over the years the Parrett & Axe Chapter has received many visits from the Grand Superintendents and on 2018 Excellent companion D John Bennett along with his provincial team came along to consecrate the new Chapter ensigns, so generously donated by the outgoing First Principal, Excellent Companion, Gerald W Morgan.

The Chapter is supportive of various local charitable organisations and local schools with donations.

The Chapter enjoys a relaxed and happy atmosphere with focus on Companions participation and where an excellent Festive Board awaits to be enjoyed along with good banter and camaraderie. You will be assured of a warm welcome as a guest at the Chapter.

New Companions to the Order will receive a warm and friendly welcome to any Brother who wishes to explore his next step in his Freemasonry journey. The Chapter celebrated its Centenary in January 2021 and we now look forward to the next one hundred years.
