Devon & Somerset Farmers’ Chapter 9250
Meets at – The Masonic Hall, Uffculme and in Somerset at 18:30
Months –The last working day of January, March, September, November (17:30).
Consecrated in 1995 at The Rougemount Hotel, Exeter Meets at Uffculme Masonic Hall, Devon
The original idea for Devon & Somerset Farmers Chapter grew out of suggestion by Companions who were members of Devon Farmer’s Lodge No 9250 which meets at Uffculme.
Uffcombe Masonic Hall at that time did not have a Chapter meeting there and this idea proved to be just what the hall needed, At that meeting of Devon Farmer’s Lodge there were also members present from Somerset Farmer’s Lodge No 9180, at that time meeting at Bruton Masonic Hall, but which later moved to Langport, and some of these Brethren expressed their interest in becoming Founders.
From this came the discussion that as Uffculme is just over the Somerset / Devon Border in Devon would it not be a good idea to form a joint Chapter, calling it Devon & Somerset Farmer’s Chapter, with Devon Farmer’s Lodge No 9250 being the sponsoring Lodge. Convocations would be held at Uffculme Masonic Hall but once a year, in January, the Chapter would stray into Somerset and meet at a convenient Masonic Hall within that Province.
The Chapter was consecrated on Thursday 30th September 1999 with about a third of the Founders being Somerset Companions while the remainder come from Devonshire. The Consecration was held at The Rougemont Hotel in Exeter as Uffculme Masonic Hall was not large enough to accommodate the number of Companions who wished to attend. Three Grand Superintendents were present at the consecration, E Comp Roy Webber from Devonshire, E Comp Revd. Michael Morgan from Hampshire and Isle of Wight and E Comp Ted Mear from Somerset. The Provincial Principals of Devonshire and Somerset attended as did both Scribe Ezra’s, the Somerset Scribe Ezra being E Comp D John Bennett. The Scribe Ezra of the Devon & Somerset Farmer’s Chapter was to be E Comp Stanley Hopkins, Past Provincial Grand Master of Somerset.
