A busy night at Rural Philanthropic Lodge
At their recent meeting RPL 291, (as its affectionately known and much easier to pronounce) they were happy to receive Russell Woodland the APGM and 11 members of the Provincial team, on the occasion of their Membership Challenge Visit.

Russell’s presentation was well received, as he explained, whilst it was a thriving Lodge with over 72 members, they had had quite a few resignations over the years and they also have the challenge of an aging membership, as do many of the Lodges in the Province. The key statement was do not become complacent.
After the presentation the Lodge then went on to the main event of the evening, to Raise Stephen Birkett to the sublime degree of a Master Mason. Stephen answered his questions well and the team led by Mike David, carried out the Raising in their usual excellent style, which is what RPL is known for, that and its good humour.

With over 50 sitting down to dine on a sumptuous meal of Italian Meatballs followed by Roast Pork, with a lovely Sherry Trifle to round it off. All cooked by the ever hard working John Chinn.
A great night was had by all in great company with the usual good humour and fun that is always present at this Lodge.
There was one sad part of the evening, when it was announced that Hugh Evans, who had been the Bar Steward of the Lodge for nearly 10 years, sadly passed away that night after a short battle with cancer.
