Perpetual Friendship – Have Trowel, Will Travel

Norman Hucker (3rd from right) presents Trowel C to Richard Wilson

The Lodge of Perpetual Friendship 135, who meet in Bridgwater (and who were warranted in 1764) made a short hop down to Taunton on 17th February, to present a Travelling Trowel to Vivary Lodge 8654. Perpetual Friendship Worshipful Master Norman Hucker, accompanied by several of his brethren presented Trowel C to Vivary Worshipful Master Richard Wilson. Trowel C will travel 17 times to 18 different lodges in 2023/2024 within the SW region, encouraging visiting and mutual friendship; it is one of 5 such trowels. The visitors and guests also watched the Vivary officers perform a 2nd degree (or passing ceremony) for David Hitchcott, who is the Uncle of Neil and Great-Uncle to Neil’s son Alan, who are also both Vivary members.

(L-R) Matt Landy, John Brown, Richard Wilson, David Hitchcott and PGM Ray Guthrie.

Keeping an expert eye on proceedings was the Provincial Grand Master for Somerset Ray Guthrie, who thanked the Vivary brethren for his recent honorary membership of the lodge. Vivary members were also pleased to approve a £750 donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), to help provide relief and support via the Turkey-Syria earthquake appeal fund. The DEC is an umbrella group of UK charities which coordinates and launches collective appeals to raise funds to provide emergency aid and rapid relief to people caught up in disasters and humanitarian crises around the world.
