A Night Of Light & Companionship: The Exaltation of Brother Bruce Freeman into Royal Arch Masonry

The 21st of April saw the Companions of Quantock Chapter No. 4446 gather in harmony and high spirits to witness a significant moment in the life of Brother Bruce Freeman, who was Exalted into the Supreme Degree of the Royal Arch. From the outset, the evening carried a sense of unity, purpose, and genuine excitement, as the Chapter came together to ensure Bruce’s Exaltation would be a night he would remember for many years to come.

The ceremony was made even more special by the fact that the Chapter worked the Savage Ritual for only the third time. This working, now being adopted by more and more Chapters across the Province, is praised for its clarity, its vivid storytelling, and the way it allows a greater number of Companions to take part. Those who have delivered it speak highly of how it paints a clear and easily understood picture of the Royal Arch narrative, giving the ceremony a shared energy and a sense of collective involvement. Quantock Chapter demonstrated this beautifully, with every Companion contributing to a ceremony that was dignified, engaging, and deeply meaningful.

A notable moment in the evening came with the presence of Excellent Companion David Parslow, who graciously stood in as Zerubbabel in place of our own Excellent Companion Chris Moore, who is currently recovering from surgery. The Chapter extends its warmest wishes to Chris for a smooth and steady recovery, and his absence was felt with affection and respect. David’s leadership in the role ensured the ceremony retained its full depth and solemnity, and his contribution was appreciated by all present.

Throughout the evening, Bruce’s sincerity and composure reflected the same dedication that has marked his entire Masonic journey. From his early days as an Entered Apprentice to the moment he stood as a newly Exalted Companion, he has shown a genuine desire to learn, understand, and grow within the Craft. The ceremony clearly resonated with him, and the Companions could see how deeply he valued the experience.

The festive board that followed was filled with warmth, laughter, and the unmistakable buzz that has become characteristic of Quantock Chapter in recent months. When Bruce rose to respond to the toast in his honour, he delivered a heartfelt and thoughtful reflection on his journey—from the nervous excitement of his Initiation to the sense of completion he felt upon entering the Royal Arch. His words captured not only the significance of the evening, but the spirit of companionship and support that defines the Chapter.

Looking ahead, the optimism within Quantock Chapter continues to grow. In June, the Chapter will Exalt another Brother, bringing the membership to 30 Companions—a milestone that reflects the Chapter’s renewed vitality and forward momentum. There is a genuine hope, and indeed an expectation, that many more will join in the coming year as the Chapter continues to flourish.

Those currently in office can certainly attest that this has not been a quiet year. The pace has been lively, the work plentiful, and the commitment unwavering. Yet far from feeling burdened, the Companions speak of a renewed energy within the Chapter—a sense of enthusiasm, unity, and shared purpose that is drawing members closer together and inspiring newer Companions to step forward.

Quantock Chapter 4446 stands today as a vibrant, welcoming, and forward‑looking home for Royal Arch Masonry. The Exaltation of Brother Bruce Freeman was not only a celebration of his personal journey, but a reflection of the Chapter’s collective spirit: supportive, dynamic, and deeply rooted in the values that make the Royal Arch such a profound and meaningful part of the Masonic story.

With new Companions on the horizon, a strong sense of unity within its ranks, and a genuine buzz about the work ahead, the future of the Chapter looks bright indeed.
