A Triple Celebration at Clevedon: John De Clivedon Lodge Concludes the Season

The final meeting of the season for John De Clivedon Lodge 7824 was held on April 13th at the Clevedon Masonic Hall. It proved to be an exceptional evening, perfectly illustrating the enduring appeal of Somerset Masonry by balancing new beginnings with the celebration of lifelong commitment.

A New Initiate and a Golden Jubilee

The Lodge was in excellent spirits as we gathered to conduct our final ceremony before the summer recess. A primary highlight was the initiation of our newest member, Brother Raines. It is always a significant moment for the Lodge to welcome a new candidate, and Bro Raines undertook his first steps into the Craft with confidence and poise.

In a wonderful contrast of experience, the Lodge also had the distinct honour of marking a remarkable milestone for Bro Ian MacDonald, who celebrated 50 years in Freemasonry.

Although Bro MacDonald is a relatively recent joining member to John De Clivedon, he is a seasoned veteran of the Craft. We were delighted that he chose to celebrate his Golden Jubilee within our Lodge. The evening was made even more memorable by the presence of his close friend, W.Bro Anthony Guthrie PGSD, Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Somerset and Provincial Grand Master Designate for the Somerset Mark Masons, who presented the 50-year certificate. This personal connection added a sincere and meaningful touch to an already landmark achievement.

Recognition from Grand Lodge

The evening’s business continued with the presentation of two Grand Lodge Certificates. These presentations are an important rite of passage for our newer Master Masons, formally acknowledging their status as full members of the United Grand Lodge of England and marking a successful conclusion to their initial Masonic studies.

A Heartfelt Farewell to our Worshipful Master

As this meeting marked the end of our current cycle, the Lodge took a moment to extend its deepest gratitude to our outgoing Worshipful Master. Having steered the Lodge through the last three years, his leadership has been instrumental in our recent growth and success.

Running a Lodge for an extended three-year term requires significant dedication and personal time. His steady hand, commitment to the ritual, and ability to foster such a welcoming atmosphere have left John De Clivedon in a fantastic position for the future. We thank him for his tireless service and look forward to his continued guidance from the back benches.
