Somerset Farmers Lodge and Sylvanus Lodge Unite for a Memorable Second Degree Ceremony
In a strong display of Masonic cooperation, Somerset Farmers Lodge and Sylvanus Lodge came together to pass Gary Powell to the second degree at the Hanging Chapel in Langport. With no spare seat in sight, the working floor was reduced to an aisle as the Master of Somerset Farmers Barry Horsgood, proffered the gavel. It is rare to see the gavel accepted – yet accepted it was, and what followed was a ceremony to remember. James Brown of Sylvanus took the chair, very ably supported by an excellent team of officers from both lodges. The second degree tracing board was superbly delivered by Gary Richmond. There is little doubt that Gary, a member of Sylvanus, will be recounting the story of his passing for many years to come.

As is usual at Somerset Farmers Lodge, the after meeting meal was a lively affair. Two full dining rooms, toasts on relay, and much good-humoured cheering and jeering capped off a special evening which reflected the spirit of fellowship that lies at the heart of the Craft.
Throughout, the benefits of cooperation and lodges supporting one another were on full display. As is often stated, all lodges have their own character; but when they come together, an entirely new one emerges – if only for a night.
