How many Sojourners ?

Despite gloomy weather on Tuesday, November 27th, eight Sojourners came up from Somerset to sojourn amongst the Companions of Portland Chapter 1037 in Dorset Province. In total, about 60 companions attended. We were all gathered for this year’s annual Quadripartite Convocation, whose members represent Hampshire & Isle of Wight, Dorset, Wiltshire and our own Province, with each province taking turns hosting once in four years. 

The event featured a memorable Exaltation ceremony, as W Brother Michael became Companion Michael, and the unique ritual inspired several of our group to whisper, “Ooh, that’s different” — which is exactly why we come: to experience something new.  The photo shows the very well-presented Temple – comfy cinema seating ! –  and all those attending. 

Following the ceremony, everyone moved on to the Festive Board, enjoying a hearty meal of steak and ale pie with chips and where Z gave his congratulations to those Companions who stepped in at short notice—proving that, wherever you go, some things in Masonry never change!  No luck for our members on the raffle – but the two Companions running it each won a prize… !  The weather was closing in, so some of the diners legged it a little early, just before the Toasts were completed.  A very enjoyable evening  and already looking forward to 2026 !
