The Somerset Sceptre restarts its journey

Eldon Chapters September’s meeting was honoured by the presence of The Most Excellent Grand Super Intendent, Ex Comp. Ray Guthrie, accompanied by a good number of his Provincial team. He delighted in presenting Eldon Chapter with the Somerset Sceptre on the restart of its journey across the Province. Ex Comp. Ray Guthrie Presented the Septer to the MEZ, Ex Comp. Keith Baker to use during our meetings until Eldon Chapter is charged to pass it on to the Principals of the Inkerman Chapter on the 28 th of September 2026, accompanied by as many companions as possible with the aim that on that evening, we will be happily renewing old companionships and fostering new ones.

The Somerset Sceptre was donated to the Province at the Provincial Convocation in May 2023 by Frank Silver. Who sadly recently passed away. Frank made this Sceptre in the form of a First Principals Sceptre, which is to be used by the First Principal of the Chapter whilst it is held by them until it is passed to the next Chapter.

Following the presentation of the Somerset Sceptre, the meeting continued with Liam Broad delivering an excellent presentation of the Historical Lecture. This was then followed by the Symbolic Lecture under the direction of Andy Broad assisted by Chris Richardson, Andrew Steel, Neil Pimm, Darryl Woodruff, Richard Burliston and Steve Wilson. Comp Peter Jefia was then presented his Supreme Grand Chapter Certificate by Andy Wade the 3 rd Provincial Grand Principal. Andy gave an excellent explanation of the certificate which I am sure will stay in Comp Peter some time to come.
