The North Somerset Branch of the Masonic Widows Association was formed in 1996. We welcome widows of former masons of all craft lodges and side degrees of the area and include any other masonic widows living within our area.
The Association provides friendship for widows and comfort and companionship to members if in distress. In addition we provide a programme of speakers, demonstrations and social activities throughout the year, and support the Somerset Masonic Friendship Association (S.M.F.A.).
The Association has its own rules, constitution and officers, has a Provincial Liaison Officer (details below), and has adopted the broken column as it’s badge, which identifies a wearer as a masonic widow.
Members raise money for charities, have a welfare service, and keep in touch with other members in care homes and those who have moved away from the area.
Meetings take place at Nailsea and Yatton Masonic Halls on the last Tuesday of each month except December, when it’s on the second Tuesday. On arrival there is coffee and after the meeting an optional two course meal is available, which needs to be booked monthly in advance.
The 30th Anniversary of the association is celebrated in 2026, when a celebratory lunch will be held on the 11th June.
Along with other widows’ associations in the Somerset Province, annually meetings for at a venue within the Province. In 2026, the North Somerset Branch are hosts for this meeting, which will take place on the 27th October at Nailsea Masonic Hall.
