St Kew BBQ is a Sizzler, with £650 raised for charity!

Members of St Kew Lodge gathered for the Worshipful Master’s Annual BBQ on Saturday, 27 June, enjoying a day of sunshine, fellowship and fundraising in support of this year’s chosen charity, Young Lives vs Cancer.

While temperatures had eased slightly following the record-breaking heat experienced in the days leading up to the weekend, the warm weather provided the perfect setting for a successful community event attended by brethren, families and friends.

This year’s charity holds particular significance for the Worshipful Master, W.Bro James Joyce. Six years ago, his son was diagnosed with leukaemia, a life-changing experience for the family. Thankfully, after years of treatment, he is now in remission. In recognition of their journey and the support provided to families facing childhood cancer, W.Bro James selected Young Lives vs Cancer as his Worshipful Masters charity for the year.

Thanks to the generosity of those attending, along with proceeds from a well-supported raffle, the event raised more than £650 for the charity.

Special thanks to Martin Hughes and his wife, Karen, for generously hosting the BBQ. Also to David Rogers for keeping guests well supplied by running both the barbecue and the bar throughout the day, as well as to all the brethren and their families who helped with preparations and ensured the event ran smoothly.

The celebrations were also marked by a poignant moment of reflection as those present raised a toast in memory of three much loved brethren who had recently passed to the Grand Lodge Above, St Kew members Brian Tubby, and 2 other freemasons from lodges in Weston. Each had been a dedicated supporter of St Kew Lodge for many years and will be greatly missed by all who knew them.

Looking ahead, St Kew Lodge’s next social event will be a Quiz Night, taking place at the Masonic Hall, Weston-super-Mare, on Saturday, 18 July. Anyone wishing to find out more can email St.kew1222sec@outlook.com for further information.
