Loyal Vacation – From the West

Members of the Loyal Vacation Lodge in Wiveliscombe have recently been forming close fraternal ties with a London unit who meet at the beautiful headquarters of Freemasonry in Holborn, London. Without their own Chapter, members of the Loyal Vacation Lodge have recently been Exulted into the Grecian Chapter 3718 (Metropolitan Grand Chapter), to a point where the progressive offices are now mostly filled by Somerset Freemasons.

The zenith of this fraternal harmony was highlighted when a number of Somerset Masons attended a highly enjoyable Grecian Lodge Ladies Valentines Weekend in Bath. One Saturday, members of both lodges and their ladies visited the Masonic Hall in Old Orchard Street, Bath and were given a tour of the Temple and Museum by guides Mike Bowyer and Simon Rogers who gave a fascinating talk on the history of the building, which was originally a theatre, then a Chapel before becoming home to a number of Bath lodges. This includes the Royal Cumberland Lodge no. 41 the oldest Lodge in Somerset, having recorded their first meeting held in December 1732.

On the Saturday evening, the Ladies Night Supper was held at the Bailbrook House Hotel in Bath, hosted by President Worshipful Brother Martyn Westbury and his Lady Sue. Martyn is also a member of Loyal Vacation Lodge and both he and Sue are to be congratulated on an excellent weekend of events. The Lodge is now planning to Consecrate its own Chapter in Wiveliscombe and membership enquiries are welcomed through their Web site 6209.co.uk.
