Connaught Lodge Initiate Mathew Burt

At their first meeting of the new year, WM Chris Brooke had the pleasure in initiating Mathew Burt, who was ably escorted by Junior Deacon, Peter Kuzemka along with Senior Deacon Neil Sunderland. Mathew had previously attended our membership evening in June last year. Once the WM had Obligated the Candidate, Tony Cooper entrusted him with the Secrets. Following Mathew being invested with his apron, Chris James explained the significance of the North-East Corner and tested Mathew’s disposition towards Charity. After which the Working Tools were presented faultlessly by Neil. Once Mathew had been restored to his ‘personal comforts’, ‘The Charge’ was given by Adrian Moore in his usual impeccable manner.

A lively Festive Board of a Burns Night Supper that was enjoyed by all. James Jefferies, as his Proposer, gave to Toast to his long standing friend Mathew. He mentioned that as both are in the building trade they refer themselves as ‘Operative Masons’, Then Neil explained ‘The Fire’ to Mathew. The Toast to the Visitors was in the capable hands of Membership Officer, Jerry Hann, and as we had a large contingent of visitors from Kenneth Kinnersley Lodge it was only proper that KK member Robin Browning responded on their behalf, and in so doing complemented the ceremony.

Notwithstanding the Christmas and New Year Festivities, suits and regalia aprons did not appear to be too tight. No doubt some adjustments had been made during the intervening few weeks. As someone remarked, at least his tie fitted.
