The Jack & Jenny National Race Night at Yeovil
On the evening of Saturday 4th October, the calm and dignified halls of Yeovil Masonic Hall were transformed into something resembling Ascot – if Ascot had cheaper beer, louder cheering, and far more questionable betting strategies. As Al Watkins and his wife Carol hosted a Race Night on behalf of the Royal Naval Lodge and the Yeovil and District WRENS Association. The evening was a great success with many WRENS, Masons, family and friends turning out in great numbers.

Thanks to the generosity of all those who attended or sponsored races, an impressive £1,145 was raised. This total will be shared between:
The Yeovil & District WRENS Association, supporting their 50th Anniversary celebrations, and
The Royal Naval Lodge – splitting between the Breast Cancer Unit at Yeovil Hospital and the Worshipful Masters chosen charity, which is to be announced in due course.

The event proved not only to be a wonderful fundraiser but also a warm and enjoyable social occasion. It showcased the strength of community spirit when Masons, WRENS, family, and friends come together. A sincere thank you goes to Al and Carol Watkins for their hard work in organising the evening, and to everyone who supported, attended, and made the night so memorable.

In the end, the horses may have been wooden – but the enthusiasm, laughter, and generosity were very real indeed.
