PGM’s Golf Day 2025 – a great day for golf!

The Annual PGM’s Golf Day was held this year at Saltford Golf Club on Thursday 3rd July. Whilst numbers were down slightly on previous years, an eclectic field had travelled from far and wide to play with Somerset Masons from Minehead, Yeovil, Wedmore, Bridgwater, Weston-Super-Mare and Taunton along with some very welcome out of Province Guests from Dorset, Bristol and Gloucestershire.

The players started arriving at the Clubhouse around 10.00 with the kitchen serving up a delicious breakfast of homemade sausage rolls and pastries along with a plentiful supply of caffeine to get everyone going ready for an 11.30 start.

The weather was absolutely glorious continuing the general pattern of a very warm summer so far. The golf course was in very good condition and the greens were running quick and true. Once the rounds were completed some very weary legs made it back into the clubhouse for refreshment and some great golfing fayre consisting of lasagne (accompanied of course by the obligatory portion of chips!) and a rather tasty dessert to follow.

The Provincial Grand Master, Ray Guthrie was unfortunately unavailable to play golf but did manage to make it down to the Clubhouse afterwards to present the trophy and other prizes. The main event was the Provincial Grand Masters Trophy, originally commissioned by Past Provincial Grand Master (and still an active Fairway Lodge Member) David Jenkins and won over the years by many famous Somerset Masonic Golfers. This year, Malcolm Head managed to bag 1stplace with a very respectable score of 35 Points and can be seen here receiving the Trophy from Ray Guthrie.

Pictured separately with the PGM (l-r) are Mark Fountain (Senior Warden of Fairway Lodge) who finished Third, Richard Stone (Somerset Mark Benevolent Fund Festival Chairman) who won Nearest the Pin on the 17th and Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Tony Guthrie who was Runner Up.

Details of next years competition should be available shortly and will be posted on the website when ready.

You don’t have to be a member of Somerset Fairway Lodge to join in the competitions or the annual matches played against other Provinces. Check out the Somerset Fairway Lodge page for details.
