Ravenswood School Masonic Fishing Event 2025
In what has become a regular reason to smile, embrace fun, and have a thoroughly good time, the Somerset Masonic Fishing Charity (SMFC) held another fishing event for students from Ravenswood school, at Jacklands Fishing Lakes, in Tickenham, near Nailsea.
Ravenswood school, Nailsea, welcomes pupils from across North Somerset and bordering local authorities. Every pupil has unique and sometimes complex needs. Their aims are many, but include the provision of the best possible education for every pupil, in a safe environment, with support to promote independence with learning, care and guidance-needs, and to provide all pupils with the key skills they need to communicate with others and express their wants, needs and likes. For more information on the excellent Ravenswood school, please visit their website.
Grateful thanks goes to Brethren from across the province who as usual lead many of the activities. They came from far and wide and included Russ Woodland, Richard Ellis, Richard Winter, Howard Ford, Mark Wilcox, Neil Miller, Steve Beech, Richard Warry, Glynn Derrick, Bill Culbraith, Andrew Foley, John Wyat, Mark Burton and of course the chairman of the SMFC, Rob Collins. Thank you Brethren.
Russ Woodland can be seen presenting medals and certificates, ably assisted by Richard Ellis.

As usual the Jacklands Farm Shop Cafe ** gave great support in providing a delicious BBQ lunch. Plenty of hot food, along with tea, coffee and soft drinks were the order of the day.

Margaret Langford provided first aid.
Ms Becky Mitchell (Assistant Head and EVC) sent this account of the day…
On Thursday 1st May, Axe class (Year 9 & 10) students from Ravenswood school had the opportunity to visit Jacklands fishing lake in Nailsea. The students had a wonderful time learning how to fish and engaged really well with the activity and group leaders. It was a very hot day but all students coped well with the heat and enjoyed the peace and quiet, while being outside in nature. Lots of our students caught a range of fish, including some very large trout that they got to take home. At the end of the day, they all received a certificate and medal for different areas of achievement. Axe class thoroughly enjoyed the day and would like to thank Rob Collins and the Mason’s for making us feel welcome and running the whole day for us.
Best wishes,
Ms Becky Mitchell,
Assistant Head and EVC.
