Another Sub for the Hub from St Lukes Chapter

Over the past two Masonic seasons St Lukes Chapter, with the support of its members, visitors and the Somerset Provincial Charity, have donated more than £1,100 towards maintaining the standards at the Oasis Community Hub in Southdown, Bath.

The Hub provides foodstuffs to those experiencing economic hardship and, as supermarkets are obliged to tighten up on stock wastage, the availability of ‘use by’ and ‘sell by’ date foods are reducing, so the challenges for food bank services to provide fresh items have increased.

Adrian Auton, First Principal of St Lukes Chapter, presents a cheque for £665 to David Musgrave, team leader at the Roundhill Pantry which is part of the Oasis Community Hub at Southdown, providing invaluable support to this very deserving charity.

The Roundhill Pantry opens every Monday. Membership is open to local residents who are experiencing economic hardship. There are two levels of membership – level 1 which costs £3 per week to select 6 items, level 2 is £5 per week to select 10 items. The fee covers chilled foods, store cupboard foods, toiletries and household items. The Pantry also provides fruit & veg and shorter dated items, for FREE on top of this fee which means the value of each shop will be between £20 and £35. Foodstuffs are sourced via FareShare, a major charity distribution supplier and Morrisons supermarket, surplus plus partnerships with local allotments who provide surplus during their growing season. Toiletries are from the Hygiene Bank and In Kind Direct. Good quality meat and vegan products are bought from Sainsburys with a considerable financial outlay so David explains that this donation will fund around a month’s worth of these essential protein items.
