News from Connaught Lodge

At their May meeting, the newly Installed Worshipful Master Chris Brooke, conducted his first ceremony, when he Passed Mitchell Pimm to the Second Degree.

Mitch was confidently escorted by the Senior Deacon Neil Sunderland and the WM was ably supported by Craig Harding and Chris James, Junior and Senior Wardens respectively.

Connaught’s second sponsored Guide Dog Puppy

Their second two-year sponsorship is a female golden Labrador-Retriever called Clover. Jasper, who they sponsored last year has been withdrawn from the programme due to health problems, which made him unsuitable as a guide dog. The remaining twelve months of his sponsorship has been transferred to Clyde, who is the same age as Jasper and is at the same stage of his training.

Sponsoring a Guide Dog is quite easy. If one goes to the Guide Dogs website they feature several puppies for sponsorship; choose one, then contact their head office to make arrangements accordingly. The total cost for two years is £104.00. A little different to donating one-off cheques to local charities, et-al. At Connaught there is a synergy with guide dogs as one of their brethren lost his sight several years ago, and although not wanting a dog himself, is an ardent supporter of the Guide Dogs Association.
