Father Son Duo at King Alfred in Plot Twist

For those who have been following along with King Alfred’s membership journey over the last 18
months or so will know that we had initiated a one Brother Finlay James along with his cousin
Brother Jack Allen in a double initiation, we then also passed them to the degree of Fellowcraft in a
double passing which was ground breaking for King Alfred.

You may also remember that Finlay helped the brethren at K.A to initiate his father into
Freemasonry Brother Daniel James back in December 2024.

Even though we are all equal under the eyes of Masonry, the fact that it was the son who initiated
his father, something that usually occurs the other way round, comes with it a certain level of
“bragging rights” that now, for probably the first time in Finlay’s life, he was in fact more senior that
his dad and actually a higher degree too.

Fast forward to Friday 11st April, Jack (Finlay’s cousin) was planned in for his 3 rd degree raising
ceremony however due to unplanned circumstances couldn’t attend, which meant Finlay could now
step up for his 3 rd . Another cracking opportunity for Finaly to gain that “one-upmanship” over his dad
who by this point was already 2nd degree himself.

Unfortunately for Finlay, at the eleventh was struck down with a serious case of “Aztec’s Revenge”.
Incomes Daniel to save the day for King Alfred. So, for circumstances of unforeseen magnitude, Daniel took his place and has been raised to the degree of Master Mason in a brilliant ceremony conducted by the brethren at King Alfred in what was essentially a Past Masters night, all ritual conducted in impeccable format as always is the custom at K.A.
