Most Excellent Grand Superintendent drops in to Wellington
At the recent Fidelity and Sincerity meeting the Chapter welcomed the MEGS, Ray Guthrie, accompanied by E Comp Mark Golding, PGDC. He was greeted by E Comp Duncan Sully-Dunbar and proffered the Sceptre, but being as Ray was making a personal visit he passed it back to Duncan. Unfortunately, we had had several late apologies from Officers that were unwell and had drafted in others to take their places, E Comp Chris Waterhouse acting as J, Keith Kerslake as Principal Sojourner and others. The programme for the night was to Ballot then Exalt Bro Simon, a member of the Lodge of Fidelity and Sincerity. We have now adopted the Savage Club Ritual and it was the third we have undertaken. All taking part, including the substitutes, undertook an excellent ceremony, even Ray took one of the parts. At very, very, very short notice E Comp Adrian Halliwell did the 3rd part of The Mystical Lecture.
The meeting was closed and companions retired for the Festive Board where the evening continued with the same camaraderie.
Footnote: In a letter from MEGS he stated:
The ceremony was well conducted by MEZ, E.Comp Duncan Sully-Dunbar, his co Principals and the Chapter Officers. It was clear that a lot of work had been done by all who took part in the ceremony prior to the meeting to ensure that our new Companion, Simon enjoyed his exaltation. As I pointed out on the evening, moving from one ritual to another script isn’t easy, I Congratulate all concerned not just for making the change but for making sure that the change works. The result was well worth the effort.
One minor point, Savage Chapter and the Somerset Provincial Team do not wear surpluses, the only person who does is the candidate. I don’t think that is mentioned in the printed ritual but they aren’t necessary. However I leave it up to the members of the Chapter to decide if they should be retained or not.
It was a very pleasant evening all round, both I and E.Comp Mark Golding the Provincial DC accompanying me enjoyed our visit. I wish the Chapter well for the future and thank you all again for you warm welcome, it was great to be with you.
