Will Feay goes over the top for Mencap
Will Feay, from Vale of Brislington Lodge, went a step further (literally) over the Tower wall of St Johns Church in Keynsham to raise money for the local branch of Mencap.
He abseiled down the tower and on reaching the ground had this to say, “my abseil was an exhilarating experience. I can’t say that I was not scared, I was terrified! The worst part was climbing out over the edge of the parapet and trusting the gear you are hooked up to as you lean back. The 100 foot drop to the ground didn’t help much either. But I kept in my mind what a great local charity I was raising money for, Keynsham Mencap”.

Will started a fund-raising page and asked their Charity Steward, David Roberts, to see if he could boost his total, which was done in fine fashion. David managed to raise a further £617 by holding a raffle, collecting personal donations and, along with match funding of £500 from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Somerset, this amounted to £1,117.
Which, when added to Will’s contribution of £561 reached a grand total of £1,678.
Mencap UK have already stated that they will also contribute a certain amount, and a cheque presentation will be made to a representative of Keynsham Mencap in December.

The Lodge will be holding a celebratory Burns night supper after their regular meeting in January 2025.
Keynsham Masonic Hall will be open to members of the public on Saturday 30th November 2024 from 1pm to 5pm.
