The 18th Annual Somerset Mark Golf Day –19th June 2024 – Isle of Wedmore Golf Club
Thirty six intrepid golfers played in the 2024 Mark Golf Day, the weather was very kind to us, wall to wall sunshine. And as always it was a very enjoyable day of fun golf, well supported by brethren from Somerset and Wiltshire and also non Masonic friends.
The main event was an Individual competition for the Provincial Grand Masters Shield. This was won by one of our guests, Philip McKinley, with a superb score of 39 pts closely followed by Graham Jeffery with a score of 37 pts, well done to both on a tricky course set up. See Photos of presentation.
The second event was for the team competition for the Kellett Cup, the team of 4, with 3 scores to count, and played in conjunction with the individual competition. The winning team being: John Nicholson (SN), John Nicholson (JN), Philip McKinley and Graham Jeffery with a great team score of 116 pts, See Photo.
The runners up were M Fountain, S Bowden, A Burton and C Mills, on a score of 114 pts, a very close call (just play a little stronger next year!).
The Third event was The Longest Drive Trophy, and was won by David Glenson, See Photo. There were various other spot prizes which were strongly contested.
The day finished off with a super Isle of Wedmore cold meat salad and Eaton mess, which was followed by the prize giving. The players were honoured by the attendance Darren Sinclair, the Senior Warden of the Mark Province of Somerset, who thanked everyone for making it a great day, and then presented all the prizes. The draw followed and along with donations the sum of £350.00 was raised for the Somerset Mark 2028 Festival.
Finally, thanks go to Martin Hares and Mark Fountain for assisting with the score cards and selling draw tickets etc.
