The Friendliest of Meetings

On Saturday 4th November, the Lodge of Perpetual Friendship No.135 hosted the ‘Friendship Lodges’ fraternal visit. Three lodges, with over twenty visitors from around the country; Friendship lodge No.100 Great Yarmouth, Lodge of Friendship No.202 Plymouth & even one member from The Lodge of Friendship No.750 Cleckheaton, came together to enjoy an excellent & fascinating meeting. Lodge of Perpetual Friendship were due to host the visit last year but allowed the Lodge of Friendship to play hosts during their 250-year anniversary.

Deliberately meeting on the same day as the world-famous Bridgwater carnival, the brethren were treated to an informative & enlightening presentation on the history of the carnival from Roger Evans, former chairman of the Bridgwater Carnival, founder of the Renegades Carnival Club & local historian.

During the meeting it was announced that W.Bro. John Hunter, after 22 years of hard and much appreciated work, has decided to step-down as the coordinator of the fraternal visits and has handed the reigns over to W.Bro Cyril Whittaker, who has kindly volunteered.

After the meeting, at the festive board, a three-course meal was enjoyed by all, including some much-needed light refreshments. The Friendship Lodges gavel was handed over to the Lodge of Friendship No.100, who are due to host again in Great Yarmouth next year. Many of the visiting & local brethren then went on to enjoy the delights of the carnival and, I am sure, some more light refreshments.
