Chapter Marine help Clevedon food bank.

Chapter Marine No. 232, who meet in Clevedon donated a total of £750 to the Clevedon district Food Bank on the 18th of August. The Clevedon District Food Bank operates four centres in North Somerset, Clevedon, Nailsea, Portishead and Yatton. The donation made by Chapter Marine will be split across all four Centres.

Chapter Marine raised a total of £500 and made a request to the Province for match funding. A match fund of £250 was given, increasing the total donation £750.

On our visit to the centre, we were greeted by the Centres coordinator and given a tour and explanation of how the centre operates. They shared how donations are obtained, how the food donations are then distributed to those most in need and provided us with information about their fund-raising activities.

We were shown an area where food parcels are made up. The content of the food parcels can then be used to prepare packed lunches for children who are currently on Summer Holidays. Whilst at school they would qualify for free school meals, however during school holidays these children may well be forced into food poverty. This is why many families rely on the food banks and the donations made to the food banks.

The visit and the information which was shared really bought to life the true value our donations made to families within our communities.

The Centres Coordinator, Kelly, passed on her grateful thanks to all the members of Chapter Marine for their donations, explaining it with go some way to help those most in need.

The presentation was made by Richard Ellis (right), Charity Steward for Chapter Marine and Geoff Lester, Provincial Grand Charity Steward.
