The Gordano Summer Social 2023

A good number of Brethren, their Wives, Families, and Friends attended The Ring O Bells Public House in Nailsea for the Gordano Summer social.

The afternoon started with Petanque (French Boules), where teams of 3 were in definite competition to win, but competed with laughter, banter and camaraderie, so much so that some of the locals even started to cheer and ended up joining in. Paul Hinkley (The Gordano Master) and his team reigned supreme, with Rob Collins’ team getting the wooden spoon.

This was followed by a “couple” of drinks, and a Ring O Bells special, a belly busing hog roast with all the trimmings. After lunch festivities were helped along by some rain, as this meant that everyone had to retire to the skittle alley for more pub sports.

Paul Hinkley and Jamie Flynn sold raffle tickets to raise money for Paul’s charity, the British Heart Foundation.

Rob then organised a darts match, much to the cheers of on lookers, with Ryan Harman Taylor winning the championship, beating Rob in the final with a nearest the bull shot. The sports continued with a Pool competition, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed, not least because Rob was again beaten in the final by soon to join Jason Harvey.

After such a day of sports everyone, exhausted, moved to the main bar where Jamie Flynn’s better half, Jesse, entertained with her wonderful singing voice. Some of the Brethren even joined Jessie, with Ryan doing a rendition of UB40s Kingston Town, and Rob and Jess singing a classic from Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s Islands In The Stream. All the stars were given rapturous applause and standing ovations.

The evening was finished with a jaw dropping performance, as Jessie closed with several opera recitals, leaving most people reaching for a handkerchief.

A fantastic Gordano Lodge social event, where everyone left happy and smiling, with full bellies and lots of prizes in hand. The photos below show that this was indeed a fabulous  event.
