Raffles
It has been a long-established principle within Freemasonry that the monies we donate to charity are raised from amongst our own members, and not from the general public. This raises the question as to whether or not we should be holding raffles when running displays at public events. Experience has shown that a raffle can be a very effective tool in getting the public to engage in conversation, which then gives us an opportunity to discuss Freemasonry. Provided that the raffle is used primarily as a way to ‘break the ice’ then it can be an effective way of generating conversations about membership. Remember that any raffle must comply with Gambling Commission regulations
