Andy Baird
Provincial Grand Communications Officer for Craft and Royal Arch
Born and raised in Cheltenham, Glos. I left school at 16 in 1978 whereupon I joined Avon & Somerset Police Cadets. I became a Constable with A&S in 1981. I carried out general police duties at Bath for seven years, then three years at Trinity Road, Bristol. In 1990 I became a Traffic Patrol Officer in Bristol and then a full-time Traffic Patrol Motorcyclist in 1991. I also qualified as a Class 1 Advanced Police Motorcycle Instructor in 2006. Heather and I have lived in Timsbury, near Bath, since 1988. We married in 1991 and our daughter, Jessica, was born in 1992 and is now married and lives in Bristol. I retired from the Police Service in 2011 whereupon I continued to work part-time as a post-test motorcycle instructor until the Covid pandemic of 2020.
My regular hobbies include playing golf and umpiring hockey. I also enjoy sea fishing, sailing, motorcycle touring, music and travelling.
I was initiated into Freemasonry in February 2013 by Exmoor Lodge 2390, in Minehead. I was appointed Lodge Communications Officer in 2015. I became WM in January 2019. I was exalted into the Holy Royal Arch in November 2015 by Dungarvan Chapter 973, in Frome. I became MEZ in September 2022.
I was advanced to the Degree of a Mark Master Mason in October 2016 by Exmoor Lodge 697, in Minehead. I am currently unattached as a Mark Mason. I became a joining member of Royal Somerset Lodge 973, in Frome, in October 2017. I became WM in November 2021.
I have been Chairman of the Frome Masonic Hall Board of Management since November 2021.
I was appointed as the Provincial SW Area Communications Officer in April 2018. I became a joining member of Somersetshire Lodge 2925, meeting a Mark Masons’ Hall in London, in September 2019.
I became WM in December 2022. In April 2022 I was appointed as Provincial Grand Communications Officer for Craft Masonry in Somerset. In May 2023 I was appointed as Provincial Grand Communications Officer for Royal Arch Masonry in Somerset.
