Backwell Installs its new Maz-ter!
On a very warm and sunny Friday evening, Bro. Dave “Maz” Mazur was placed into the Chair of King Solomon by the Installing Master, W.Bro John Dalby to become Backwell Lodge’s new Worshipful Master.
The installation meeting was attended by W.Bro Martin Slocombe, Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master as the presiding officer representing the PGM, along with W.Bro Garry Sharp, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies. W.Bro Martin did the address to the new Master with W.Bro Garry doing the address to the Wardens. The Lodge was also pleased to see three ruling Masters of other Lodges taking the time to visit us alongside several other visitors.
W.Bro Maz invested his officers in excellent fashion and expressed his gratitude to those not only taking an office but those staying in their offices for a further year. It was pleasing to see one of our newer “light blue” members taking the office of Inner Guard and beginning their own journey of progression to the Chair.
Downstairs, members and visitors enjoyed an excellent Festive Board with good food and good company. It was clear that W.Bro Maz was already adding his own touches to proceedings when the Italian amaretti biscuits and limoncello rounded off an excellent meal!
After the toast to the Worshipful Master, W.Bro Maz gave a very sincere response outlining how grateful he was for the trust that the Lodge had put in him and reiterating that the success of the Lodge in his year is down to teamwork and everyone pulling together.
W.Bro Martin responded to the toast to the Province, which included a very important update about the continuation of the prostate cancer screening programme that will be running at the Masonic Halls in Keynsham in October and Taunton in November, encouraging members to check the Provincial website for further details on how to book appointments.
Unfortunately, in all the evening’s excitement, the Lodge Communications Officer forgot to take photos upstairs but did manage to get one at the Festive Board much to W.Bro Garry’s relief who said “For a minute I thought he was going to ask us to go back upstairs and put all our regalia back on!”.
Overall, a very enjoyable installation evening and a good year ahead to look forward to!
