Following a discussion at the September 2025 meeting of the Calderley Chapter of Union, on the subject of the Royal Arch Ritual Lectures, the Somerset 1st Principals Chapter readily accepted the Grand Superintendent’s invitation to host a presentation of the complete set of lectures. As such, the Historical, Symbolical , and Mystical lectures are to be presented on March 28th at the Taunton Masonic centre at 11am.
The Principals will host this event, and numerous companions from across the Province will take part, especially those companions new to the Royal Arch.
For companions who have not yet heard the Historical and Symbolical lectures, this will be an excellent way to make your daily advancement in Masonic knowledge; for a “taster”, please see below a short description of each lecture.
The Provincial Grand Mentor, excellent companion Bob Paice, has been instrumental in taking advantage of this event to increase engagement and enjoyment of the Royal Arch. Should you wish to take part, please register your interest by emailing Bob at bobandhilary@gmail.com.
To book in, please use the below summons, which should be emailed to Scribe Ezra, Jim Nicol, at ra3746scribe@gmail.com
Finally, please find below a letter from Zerubbabel, which further explains the background and agenda.
The Lectures
Historical
The Royal Arch Historical Lecture provides a summary of the historical periods and key figures that form the foundation and allegory of Royal Arch Masonry, framing it as the culmination of the Craft degrees. It often centres on three main epochs, each defined by a significant event in the Temple history.
Symbolical
The Royal Arch Symbolical Lecture shifts the focus from the historical narrative of the building and rebuilding of the Temple, to the interpretation of the emblems, colours, signs, and sacred words of the Royal Arch degree. It is essentially a key that unlocks the meaning of the Chapter’s arrangement and the ritual’s most profound concepts, completing the philosophical journey of a Master Mason.
Mystical
(Most companions will have heard this. This summary is for completeness)
The Royal Arch Mystical Lecture delves into the esoteric, spiritual, and philosophical core of the degree, focusing primarily on the ineffable names of Deity and the profound meaning of the ritualistic practices and language used. It seeks to explain the moral and theological lessons conveyed through the historical and symbolical elements.
