Charity Begins at Home in Wincanton

It’s been a busy start to Spring at the Lodge of Science in Wincanton as the Lodge Charity Steward has began distributing the funds raised during 2025. So far £500 has gone to The Men’s Shed, which meets at the Balsam Centre, Wincanton. This inspirational charity brings retired or unemployed men together to work on community projects and to socialise – it can be an absolute lifeline for members – alleviating loneliness and offering them the chance to make new friends.

The Lodge has further donated £500 to The Growing Space, which also meets at the Balsam Centre. This thriving charity group offers a social and therapeutic horticultural experience for people of all ages, through developing the Centre’s garden and outdoor spaces.

Freemasonry provides a wonderful opportunity for members to meet and get to know people from all walks of life, whilst working in harmony to raise money for good causes. The Lodge of Science is one of the 84 Lodges in Somerset. It raises around £4000 each year, entirely through the generosity of its 44 members. All of this money is distributed to worthy good causes, many of these are local charities for whom these donations make a significant impact. To find out more visit www.wincantonfreemasons.org
