Charity Day—Double Header Raising over £3,500

The afternoon of 5th July saw the return of our annual Charity Lunch with this year’smain event taking place at the Event Barn, Flying Fish, Ashill. The chosen charity,selected by our WM Howard, was the Blackdown District Scouts, with the funds raised going towards much-needed maintenance and repairs of their site inHuish Woods, West Hatch, Taunton.

Thanks to the incredible response from brethren, friends and family, the event was completely sold out, with more than 100 guests enjoying a fantastic afternoon ofgood company, a superb hog roast buffet lunch, and live entertainment from Miss Ivy Belle, who treated us to a wonderful selection of songs spanning numerous genres and generations.

The glorious weather and the extraordinary generosity of Brother Andrew Gordon-Reid meant we were able to continue the celebrations into the evening with a
second event in the garden at Bro. Andrew’s home.

With another well-stocked bar, delicious buffet food and live music from Paul Wright who entertained more than 50 guests with a great selection of tunes from across the decades, the second half of our Charity Day proved every bit as successful as the
first.
 
Both events were an overwhelming success and demonstrated once again what can be achieved when the Lodge, our families and supporters all pull together. A huge thank you must go to everyone who helped make the day possible, particularly Genevieve and Diane who ran the bars, Scott for the tasty hog roast, Graham from Emmi Desserts for the wonderful array of puddings and to everyone else who generously provided food, raffle and auction prizes.

A very special thank you to Brother Buddy for his tremendous generosity and support, and of course to the amazing team at The Flying Fish whose help was invaluable.

Between the two events, we raised the exceptional sum of more than £3,500 for charity —a tremendous result and one of which everyone involved can be extremely proud.
