A new “Lewis” at Lodge of Science

In September, Lodge of Science initiated their latest member, Nick Mattravers. Nick is the son of existing member, Nigel Mattravers, making him a Lewis. For the information of newer members, in freemasonry the word “Lewis” symbolises strength. Traditionally, a son’s duty is to support his ageing parents and bear life’s heavy burdens as they grow old. Just as the metal tool called a lewis lifts and supports heavy stones for a building, a son supports and lightens the load for his father. Nick was warmly welcomed by all of the Scientists and their visitors and enjoyed a bumper festive board as well as a sonorous rendition of the Entered Apprentice song.
