And Then Captain Crusty Hoved Into View!
Members, family and friends of Frome’s Royal Somerset Lodge enjoyed a wonderful June afternoon and evening at a garden party held at the home of Ian and Lynda Rogers in the town.
This was the third successive year that Ian and Lynda have hosted such an event, made even more poignant this year, as it marked the culmination of a very happy and successful year for the Lodge with Ian as Worshipful Master.
No strangers to arranging philanthropic socials, Ian and Lynda also arranged and hosted a hilarious Race Evening at Frome Masonic Hall in March, followed by a brilliant Royal Somerset Lodge Ladies’ Weekend in May, which was held at Leigh Park Hotel, Bradford on Avon.

Their joint commitment to Freemasonry in Frome also extends to being enthusiastic and hard-working members of Frome Masonic Hall’s Board of Management, where Lynda does a fantastic job of managing the Hall’s private hire bookings and functions.
Guests arrived at the garden party to find the sun shining down on the well appointed gazebos and bar tent, ready to receive them for the wonderfully relaxed and convivial gathering that followed.

That peace and tranquillity was only shattered with the sudden and previously unannounced arrival of Frome’s recently-formed Captain Crusty and the Pickled Herrings, who then treated the partygoers to some fine a cappella sea shanties together with some obligatory and enthusiastic crowd participation. It’s not every day you hear sea shanties sung by all-girl groups but, judging by the rapturous applause they received, you won’t hear better, either!

All this, together with a richly-laid buffet table, made for a very memorable occasion of fun, friendship and laughter.
Ian (and Lynda) should be rightly pleased with their year in office for Royal Somerset Lodge.
