Richard Huish 2nd Double: 48 years later!

Starting with a question: BGT means “Bob’s Got Talent” – but what is it? (Answer at the end).

On the 25th April, Richard Huish Lodge delivered a double initiation: a mere 48 years after their previous one! In one of several late changes to the advertised programme, their candidates on the evening were Bob and Ben, the latter with only 4 days’ notice. Bob was proposed by his great friend Brother Mark (who could not be present on the night unfortunately) while Ben was proposed by Brother Richard, his father-in-law. Multiple ceremonies always attract an audience – Taunton Masonic Hall held 53 members and guests on the evening, including a hearty and welcome contingent from the Adair Club. Both candidates were terrific and the two Deacons, Brothers Bryan and Lee, were flawless in their supervision of, and support to, the two candidates. Brother George then gave a truly exemplary JW charge to the candidates.

In a packed agenda, as well as the usual business of the election meeting, the Brethren successfully balloted for two joining members, Andrew and Dave from Watchet, previously Masons of Kent – Kentish Masons…? Both very experienced and already booked for work at the next lodge meeting. Brethren also balloted successfully for a candidate Steve, just needing to sort his initiation date now. Another late change was the office of Senior Warden, capably filled at no notice and on his 73rd birthday, by Roger, aka Mr Reliable, who at least got a song and a cake out of it ! Yet another late change was the unavoidable absence of the Lodge Comms Officer, so the photo is fine work by the Lodge Secretary.

Photo above shows: (L > R): SD Lee, Ben’s proposer Richard, SW Roger, Candidate Ben, WM Russell, JW Paul, Candidate Bob and JD Bryan.

And the answer: for 6 weeks of the year, Bob is a professional Father Christmas… in FINLAND!
